SOULFOOD, SOULFUL SUNDAYS
Okay, so let me set the scene for you……
It was a cold, dull & rainy Sunday in White City; my homegurl and I were wrapped up nice and warm in our long puffy Asos coats. Walking from Westfields after grabbing a few bits from Sephora. It was so typical of google maps to get us lost, we walked in the chilly winds around an entire block of newly build flats looking for White City Soho House where the event Soulful Sundays was being held.
Amani diamond mixed with POLICE To Be Born To Shine scent (yes, I'm specific, these two perfumes are the winning combo.) filled my nostrils as I pulled my turtle neck above my chin, a sista was cold.
Anyhow, we end up asking for directions at this point....Finally we arrived & as we entered we were hit with instant vibesss. It’s giving Love Jones; it's giving Insecure; it’s giving Twenties… its giving Soulful Sunday with Soul Surge!
We found ourselves a cute little situation on the gorgeous, cozy, suede, emerald green sofa, got comfortable, then headed to the bar for some cocktails.
The DJ's were running the riddims Phabo- @ Me (Feat. Rexx Life Raj), Jayo- 22,
Shae Universe Sit Back (feat. ENNY), Kenyon Dixon- ISLY, Nao- Dywm, Masego- What you wanna try, SiR- John Redcorn……you get the vibe.
(If you know, youuu know!)
While enjoying the fire sets, we played Jenga & Connect 4 (I was on a winning streak; they don’t call me the Queen of games for a reason.)
We were later joined by my other homegurl and her super dope girlfriends, which is when the evening began to get even more interesting & fun. The chemistry among us was uncanny, so effortless & natural, our energies flowed like water from Dunn's River.
Put it this way, we had a timeee last night!
We conversed about music, love & sometimes the lack of, therapy, dating Black, our many stories /experiences and gurlll did we stay on that topic for hours (Like Muni Long hours & hours.), the unbalanced masculine & feminine energy within our community, never seeing our mothers experience soft life, how we saw & valued ourselves, Botox- lip fillers, gaining that grown woman sexy weight, traveling, cooking and obviously our careers.
We spoke about cherishing the present moment & this being the best year of our lives. We swapped life tips & tricks, words of encouragement as well as social medias. (C'mon you we gon keep the vibe going at our next WAP event.) We shared our personal achievements & hyped each other up.
We laughed hard, bussed jokes, drank & shared tea all while soaking up the atmosphere.
If I had to encapsulate that evening into a pill it would be a literal chill pill, we were simply high on life.
It was the type of night we all didn't expect, but definitely needed. We were having such a good time we didn’t realise the event had finished an hour prior but there we were still conversing. Had it not been a Sunday evening, I'm convinced we would still be there chatting till now. (Lolll you know us women love ah good chat!)
I left feeling so inspired, empowered & poured into. It's amazing what good conversation & chemistry could do to one's little universe.
I smiled all 5mins on the way to White City station, then ended up connecting with another set of gorgeous Queens as we waited for our train on the platform.
(Yes, I was clearly on my high frequency Queen vibe ish.)
We laughed some more right until our journeys separated.
I couldn't help but think, Woooow! How important it is as women that we move with the intent of authentic sisterhood. Now, I'm not saying you have to become best friends with every sista you meet but more so it's fine being nice over social media but who are you & what is your vibe in real life?
When we are not performing for each other but more so enjoying each other's company, that is when we truly are at our best. Our currency should always be love. Let's get back to embracing & being patient with each over, like you are with that one guy you know ain't on ish but somehow you still manage to have some sort of patience for him. Let's extend that to our sisterhood too!
Why? Because our sisterhood is worth & deserves it. Above all, if we don't have sisterhood, then what do we have?
Sisterhood is so real, i wish it for every woman. I appreciate reading things like this because it lets me know there are space that are still real & genuine.
